WHO ARE WE ?

ABOUT

A Breton shaper based in southern Finistère, I design my boards with an approach focused on performance, feel, and authenticity. I pay particular attention to the choice of high-end materials and every detail of the manufacturing process. Inspired by vintage shapes from the 60s and 70s, I enjoy revisiting this heritage by adding a contemporary touch to create unique, modern, and high-performance boards.

Originally from Brittany, in the Pays Bigouden region, it was only natural that I chose the name "Zorn Glas," which translates to "Blue Hands" in Breton, as a nod to the region. It's a reference to the handcrafted work and artistry that the shaper's profession represents. "Zorn" comes from "dorn" (hand in Breton). The "z" echoes the evolution of the Breton language. The color blue is a reference to our playground: the ocean.

This passion drove me to gain a deep understanding of how a surfboard works, constantly pushing my limits and improving my feel for the waves. After spending time in shaping workshops in the southwest, through countless repairs and creations, I quickly transformed this adventure into a genuine sharing experience, helping other surfers explore and refine their own surfing, thus creating Zornglas Surfboards in 2024.

My high standards and perfectionism motivate me to always strive for excellence, in order to design high-performance and unique boards that fully meet the expectations of each rider.

OUR COMMITMENTS

At Zornglas Surfboards, every board is much more than just a piece of equipment for riding the waves—it’s the result of artisanal craftsmanship, a passion for the ocean, and deep roots in Brittany, a land of character and surfing.

 1. Quality and Sustainability Above All
We design our surfboards with a clear goal in mind: to produce fewer boards, but better ones.
We don’t turn a blind eye to reality: the surfboard manufacturing industry remains a polluting activity today. Composite materials, resins, and certain production steps have an impact on the environment.
Aware of this reality, we’ve chosen to do things differently: by making more durable boards, reducing overproduction, and working at every stage of production to limit the use of polluting materials—and thus our ecological footprint.

Our goal isn’t to be perfect, but to do better with every board, moving toward a more responsible approach to surfing that better respects the ocean that sustains us. Each model is designed and crafted to stand the test of time, minimize wear and tear, and offer the best possible ride on the water. Our approach aims to avoid overproduction and reduce our environmental impact by prioritizing quality over quantity. Our materials are carefully selected for their durability and reliability, so your board will last season after season—without having to replace it after just one

Zornglas is also committed to extending the life of existing surfboards. We offer a selection of restored and reconditioned boards, carefully repaired in our workshop and then resold at a discounted price. This initiative helps limit waste, reduce the consumption of new raw materials, and give surfers access to high-quality boards, all while contributing to a circular and eco-friendly approach.

Every board deserves a second wave.

We believe that sustainable surfing is responsible surfing.

 2. The Beginnings of Textile Manufacturing Rooted in Brittany
True to our roots, we make it a point of honor to collaborate with local Breton partners at every stage of our development. We prioritize regional partnerships to support the local economy and showcase Breton craftsmanship. We are currently researching and in discussions with Breton workshops and factories to develop a textile line 100% made in Brittany—sustainable, durable, and elegant clothing that reflects the character of our coastline.

For now, our textile products are manufactured in Bangladesh, as is still the case for a large portion of the global textile industry. However, all design, screen printing, and other printing are done in Brittany, at our partner workshop. We are committed to complete transparency: producing 100% in Brittany remains our goal, and we are actively working to achieve it. In the meantime, we have chosen a supplier that adheres to strict environmental and social standards. Certifications such as GOTS, OEKO-TEX Standard 100, PETA-Approved Vegan, and Fair Wear Leader attest to a commitment to humane working conditions and more responsible production.

3. Regional Partnerships

We carefully select our partners based not only on the quality of their products but also on their commitment to the environment. Each of the brands we work with strives to minimize its environmental footprint as much as possible—whether through the choice of materials, manufacturing methods, or resource management.

Thanks to these collaborations, we offer surf accessories designed in Brittany that combine authenticity, sustainability, and respect for the ocean. By supporting these local businesses, we help boost the regional economy while promoting more responsible surfing.

4. Transparency and Ongoing Commitment

At Zornglas Surfboards, every commitment is concrete.

We move forward step by step, driven by the desire to constantly improve our practices: by choosing more sustainable materials,

by optimizing our manufacturing processes, and by strengthening our local partnerships.

Our vision: to create local, sustainable, and environmentally friendly products, so that every session is a celebration of surfing, nature, and craftsmanship.
